As a genuine paradigm of living history, Ironwood Hotel derives its name from the famous ironwood, the common name for a large number of woods having the reputation of strength and durability. The Philippine Ironwood, known locally as “mangkono” is the strongest lumber in the country. This was the main material used in the foundation of the previous building’s structure, which has been estimated to be at least a hundred years old. Indeed a true example that the ironwood continues to withstand the test of time.
Revealing its exquisiteness, the ironwood is visible in the hotel’s interior through the chandeliers and the reception desk. This was conceptualized by designer Bernardo Urbina as part of his revival of the Tacloban community through the “Tacloban Prevails’ project. With the effects of global warming now being felt, we share the same vision as “Tacloban Prevails”, which is upcycling – the giving of new life to previous heritage, but also a reflection of the hotel’s strong foundation and passion to be of service to our guests.
